My Recent Trip to Europe - 2022
I recently went travelling for a few weeks. I caught the ferry from Hull to Holland and then travelled into Germany, and then into the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden and then back to Germany and Holland.
Now, I have a confession here.... I was going to take my Fuji with me, but at the last moment I decided to not take a camera and just use my phone to take all my pictures. Two reasons, really: taking a camera would have meant more space in my luggage for the camera, batteries, charger and lenses. I was travelling light on my motorbike so wanted to keep my luggage to a minimum - so, no argument - the phone it was going to be...
Good or bad...? Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. To take a picture, does it really matter if you use a camera or a phone...? For me personally, I'd say NO because a picture is a picture. I've been taking pictures for over 40 years, using the biggest to the smallest cameras and as I see it, a camera is simply a device to capture the image. The only things they do differently is all the bells and whistles, and maybe how the lenses work with light.
When you step back, regardless of using a camera or a phone - it still needs someone to look at the scene, compose the picture and then press the button. I'm sure lots of people will disagree, usually by people who have expensive cameras and lenses - but that's how I feel.
Will I use my phone again when I go travelling...? Oh, definitely yes.
