The Hill of many crosses...
Heading north, I found another campsite next to a lake in the Žemaitijos National Park. On the way I stopped to visit the 'Hill of Crosses', which was another visual feast.
The ‘Hill of Crosses’ is a large hill that is festooned with thousands of crosses. Situated about 12km north of Šiauliai, there are hundreds of large crosses, thousands of medium sized crosses and zillions of small crosses intermingled or hanging off the bigger crosses. People started putting crosses on the hill about 1831 and it's now become a place of pilgrimage for many, religeous people, tourists and the ubiquitous Instagrammer.
