Some of the wonderful things I see while I'm on my travels.
The Transfăgărășan Road
Moving from the south to the north of Romania means using the Transfăgărășan Road, which is about 50 miles of mountains, sharp hairpins and beautiful scenery. And also bears, begging at the side of the road for food. Google Pixel 7
Romania – The South
Crossing into Romania was easy. I headed to Podu Dambovitei in Transylvania, where I found a campsite with a wonderful view over the mountains. Besides exploring the local area I also visited the Castle in Rasnov. Its a beautiful village, and to get to the castle on top of the small mountain you have to...Continue reading→
Bulgaria
Leaving Turkey I arrived in Bulgaria and headed north to the town of Plovdiv for a few days, and then over to Koshov, a small country village in the north. In Plovdiv there are some Roman ruins and the Old Town. I dumped the bike on a pavement near the 'Old Town' and went to...Continue reading→
Northern Turkey
Heading north, I arrived at Sinot, which is a small city on the coast of the Black Sea. Camping nearby for a few days, its a nice quiet city, and if you want to see something really interesting- go and visit the local jail, which is worth the visit. Best of all is finding a...Continue reading→
Göreme
Heading east I arrived at Göreme, which is more or less in the centre of Turkey. The landscape here is unique and like nothing else in the world, with these wonderful cone shaped rock structures which were formed over many millions of years. While I was here, besides exploring the local area I also went...Continue reading→
Sagalossos
Heading east, I was staying at a campsite in a country park near Isparta. There is a large lake and the whole area is covered with trees, which was great for keeping cool under the strong sun. I was here because I wanted to visit the ancient town of Sagalossos. Getting to Sagalossos was an...Continue reading→
Laodicea
Heading west, I visited the ancient city of Laodicea. Built on top of a large flattened hill and overlooking a wide green valley, Laodicea was built around 1BC. When I arrived there were only two other tourists walking around the ruins, which was uniquely strange. With a main road running roughly east to west, and...Continue reading→
Ephesesus
After leaving Troy, I headed to south west Turkey to the coastal port of Kusadasi, which is a busy modern holiday town. I came here because I want to visit the nearby ruins at Ephesesus. Ephesesus, or as the Turkish call it - Efes - is beyond your imagination. In ancient times it was a...
Troy
After leaving the Dardanelles I headed south to Troy. Opposite the museum was a taverna with two slots for campers, which allowed me to stay for a few days as I wanted to see the ruins and the museum. The museum is excellent, as besides giving you lots of information about the site of Troy,...Continue reading→
North West Turkey
Visiting Turkey is to experience beautiful sights, superb food and the most welcoming of people. Entering Turkey in the north east, I headed to the Dardanelles. I was heading for Klitbahir on the northern peninsula of the Dardanelles, where I was going to stay for a few days. I have an interest in WW1 and...Continue reading→
